What is a cooperative advertising campaign and who can participate?

Most cooperative advertising campaigns are available for all business owners of Tecumseh. The campaigns that are not available to all business owners consist of those campaigns that are subsidized by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). These cooperative campaigns are only available to business owners within the DDA District. Every co-operative advertising campaign offers options in newspaper, radio and other print media.

The Tecumseh Economic Development Department is here for you. We are a free resource for incoming, brand new or well established businesses in Tecumseh. We will assist you with location selection, general business assistance, general marketing, business plan review, ordinance and zoning compliance as well as several other helpful business services.

What is the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and what do they do?

The DDA District was created on December 31st, 1981 and is the sole entity dedicated to correcting and preventing deterioration of the downtown business district, encourage historic preservation, authorize the acquisition and disposal of real and personal property, authorize the creation and implementation of development within the district as well as to provide beautification, economic growth and business assistance within the DDA District. The DDA Board consists of a majority of downtown property owners and other community residents interested in the future of downtown Tecumseh.

Five committees have been created to assist in implementing the goals and objectives of the DDA and the Economic Enhancement Strategy for the City of Tecumseh.

When are the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) meetings?

The DDA Board meetings are located within City Hall at 309 East Chicago Boulevard and are held the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 a.m. inside City Hall's Council Chambers. DDA Board meetings are open to the public.

The Marketing Committee meetings are held quarterly on the third Tuesday of the month beginning in January at 8:00 a.m. These meetings are held at City Hall located at 309 East Chicago Boulevard, Tecumseh, MI, 49286. Membership of the Marketing Committee is open to business owners within the DDA District. Members are subject to approval by the DDA Board. Marketing Committee meetings are open to the public.

The Economic Development Committee (EDC) meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every other month beginning in January. Meetings are held at City Hall located at 309 East Chicago Boulevard, Tecumseh MI, 49286 at 8:00 a.m. EDC meetings are open to the public.

The Physical Improvement Committee meetings are held quarterly on the third Wednesday of the month at 8:00 a.m. beginning in March. These meeting are held at City Hall located at 309 East Chicago Boulevard, Tecumseh MI, 49286. The Physical Improvement Committee meetings are open to the public.

The Organization Committee meetings are held on an "as needed" basis and are held at City Hall located at 309 East Chicago Boulevard, Tecumseh, MI, 49286. These meetings are at 8:00 a.m. and are open to the public.

How can I become active in the community?

There are many ways you can become active in the Tecumseh community. You can join any of the many event committees within the City, join a City Board or Commission, or participate in a business association.

Tecumseh event committees consist of, but are not limited to, the Appleumpkin Festival & WestFest Committee, Holiday Open House Committee, Ice Sculpture Festival Committee, Sidewalk Market Days Committee, Promenade Tecumseh Committee, Memorial Day Parade Committee and Breast Cancer Awareness Month Committee. Marketing Assistance

Marketing assistance is available through the Economic Development Department. Our Marketing Coordinator markets the City of Tecumseh as a whole as well as works with individual businesses to help them to increase their marketability and generate a strong customer base.

Downtown Tecumseh

We are again planning the best festival and have been working on the details the past several months. 

We would like to invite you to participate in our festival.

Our activities will include the Antiques Street Fair and Collectibles, an Arts & Craft Show, Make It Take It Crafts, Make It Take It Scarecrows, carnival rides, inflatable activities, live entertainment, many children and family fun activities, food vendors, activity vendors and merchandise vendors.

Of course we have all our great merchants in the downtown with the red carpet service laid out to our festival visitors.

There are several different categories and you need to determine which category you belong in. The Appleumpkin committee may review all applications and if a category does not deem to be correct, you will be notified.

2017 Vendor Applications

  • Antiques & Street Fair – products must be classified as an antique or collectible items
  • Arts & Crafts – products must be personally handcrafted, handmade or personally produced; see application for more details. Arts & Craft Vendors please contact The Tecumseh Area Chamber of Commerce at 517-423-3740 with questions or for application information. 
  • Activities – interaction especially to children, from youngsters to late teens, much may be hands-on activity, construction, participation in a game, etc.
  • Food – only product sold are foods meant for consumption immediately, inspected by the health dept.
  • General – businesses that normally do festivals, home-based businesses, products are manufactured, imported; may also be a service business making contacts, appointments, demonstrating, etc.
  • Non-Profits – organizations promoting their areas of interest with possible fundraising.
