How do the sculptors create the fine details in the sculptures?

The details are carved into the ice from the back they are then packed with snow to highlight items such as the lettering in the sculptures below.

Color is added at this stage to enhance various elements.  The sculpture is then refrozen and more water is added. It is frozen again to complete the process.

Pretty impressive isn’t it?
